Welcome

Welcome to the Iowa County Habitat cafe. Grab a cup of coffee and learn what the great people in Iowa County are planning.

Good news: We'll be building a Habitat for Humanity home for a wonderful family in Iowa County, Iowa. The partner family lives in Marengo: Kathy Hopkins and her 4 children. The lot we will build the new home on is also in Marengo.

Many people think that Habitat for Humanity gives homes away.
Not true.

Habitat partner families buy their houses like everyone else. However, unlike most houses sold, Habitat does not make a profit or charge interest on the loan. This helps make the home affordable for people who earn between 30 - 50% of the median income. And the price of the home is kept down because people in the community volunteer and donate their labor.

That's why all of us, working together, can build a "simple, decent, affordable home" that a family like Kathy Hopkins and her four children can buy.

Look at their picture - won't you be happy to help them? Come back to this site often to meet the people in Iowa County working on this project, see where we are in the project and learn how you too can help.
